This week's Read Aloud is: Snappsy the Alligator (Did Not Ask To Be In This Book) Written by: Julie Falatko Illustrated by: Tim Miller Discussion : Why does Snappsy think the narrator is “an awful narrator?” Use examples from the story to explain your response. Activity : Draw Snappsy and use speech bubble to have Snappsy talk. You can also write a sentence to narrate or explain what is going on it the scene. See the example below. Activity: I plan to create a new Reading Challenge Menu and I would like your help.  Do you have any ideas for reading challenges that I could include? Week of May 4th: The Gruffalo

This week's story is: The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson, illustrated by Axel Scheffler Read by former First Lady, Michelle Obama Discuss:  1. Why do the animals want the mouse to visit?  2. Why is the mouse surprised to meet the Gruffalo? 3. Why do the animals run away from the mouse and the Gruffalo? Story Activity:  Name and Design a New Creature by Combining 2 Different Animals Gruffalo is the name of the monster in this story.  Gruffalo sounds like buffalo. What if the Gruffalo was a mix of two animals?   Gr oundhog + b uffalo = gruffalo   Can you make a new creature from two different animals?    1) Select two different animals. 2) Mix two different animals together to create a new animal (or monster).  Name your new animal.  Try to use letters and sounds from the 2 animals that you mixed. 3) Draw or create your new animal/monster.   You can use this handy worksheet . This week's story is:  Creepy Carrots written by Aaron Reynolds, illustrated by Peter Brown. Read by the author.  Run Time: 6:57 Discuss: Who thinks the carrots are creepy? Why? Why were the carrots happy that Jasper had carried out his plan? Story Activity:  Make an Alliteration Garden The name C reepy C arrots repeats the same beginning sound.in both words. This repetition of words with the same beginning sound is called alliteration. Create a garden using alliteration.  You can start with Creepy Carrots and add a few more, such as... Leafy Lettuce and  Tasty Tomatoes. Can you think of any more fruit or vegetable names? Draw and write your answer.  Here's a handy worksheet to help you out.
